SC Simulations – F-16 at your home

// February 1st, 2010 // F-16 simulators

The world changes… for simmers too. One year ago I wouldn’t thought I’d build 1:1 F-16 cockpit. Today I’m incredibly close to “as real as it can get” at home.

I’ve always treated F-16 pit builders as a cool community, full of highly motivated “engineers”. Damn, how do you explain building the cockpit for several years other way?
That’s not me. I want things fast, plus I’m a guy commited to 100 different hobbies. “Engineers” impress me but I really wouldn’t trade, you know what I mean? :)
It all changed just a few months ago after visiting SC Simulations (SCS) web site. Born from a dream of a guy (real life pilot) who decided to change the market and deliver 1:1 pits, at affordable price. That was the beginning of SC Simulations, now a group of people lead by Sheldon Cannon “making functional products available to the home user at a cost that they can afford, and fit in their homes.” (you may read interview with Sheldon at PITBUILDERMAG.COM)

Great service, high quality, detailed products and prices uncomparable to these on the F-16 pit market, opened the door to the world of pit builders for guys who coudn’t afford to sacrifice years and thousands of dollars to finally sit in their cockpit. I’m one of these guys. I hesitated for a while but finally made up my mind and “jumped off the cliff”, believing SCS is the only way to deliver beloved Falcon to my home.

I received 3 heavy boxes just a few weeks ago and today I enjoy almost ready F-16 skeleton in my garage! Yes, it is 1:1. Material? MDF. “Like furniture?” some of you will ask. I answer: look at Hollywood industry. Have you ever played special features of your favourite movies DVD/Blu-ray – building the sets, etc.? MDF and ABS are materials ready to imitate any material on the world (plus, they are easy to mold). Professional painting (best at paint shop if possible with professional paints) gives you unbelievable possibilities of perfect imitation of metals (you may even choose the kind and gloss of metal of your choice!).
It’s worth a note, good in house painting may give you nice effect as well.
And if you’re hardcore fan of cold touch of aluminum – don’t worry. SCS has something for you as well. They are just working on “Aluminum Pro Series Pit!” :)

I’ll soon publish my private documentary of assembling process and in the meantime you may follow updated:
